Around My Way

Friday, May 28th, 2004

Title comes from a track on Talib Kweli’s new album that will be out later this year. Lonely People is another tight track off the album.

I am doing a little drinking tonight to celebrate the end of my training for my new job. Finally, the three weeks of training is over and I begin really working on Monday. I went out onto my own today for the first time. I think I took about 6 calls in the 2-3 hours that I was ther on my own. It felt good to finally do my job without one of my peers looking over my shoulder even though they helped me most of the time. It just felt good to be independant.

I need to get my wife’s immigration paperwork done this weekend. I hope that I will have some time to have a little bit of coding, but I might reinstall windows and if I do that, then I might not do much coding.

Peace…

P.S. The Streets & Mike Skinner are tight. Don’t deny!

You Don’t Want Problems

Tuesday, May 25th, 2004

I need to do some work on VatoBlog. I really need to get FreeTextBox working on non-IE browsers. I thought I had done that already but its not working. I have switched my primary browser and email apps over to Firefox and Thunderbird respectively and there for it would be nice to be able to post from Firefox. I have a new problem though, my new employer has a intellectual property rights in my contract and they could take control of my work if they feel like it. I have to figure something out.

I have been watching a lot of movies recently because I have a lot of spare time, nothing to do, and no TV. Tonight I finally watched Fucking Åmål. What a great flick! That was the first Swedish movie I have ever watched and I was really impressed. I saw a lot similarity to the lifestyle I experienced in the country when I was in high school. I highly recommend this movie!

Long Weekend

Saturday, May 22nd, 2004

Well, it’s May long and I’m staying at home. I was thinking about going to Saskatoon but the weather sucks and I was just there 2 weeks ago and I don’t have much to do there except get my allergies aggravated

I took my first phone calls at work on Friday. I think I did pretty good except my tongue tripped on the second call when I said, “Thank you for calling…” The first call was just a callback and I just had to tell her that someone else would call her back. The second call was a 550 error in Outlook Express and I was quite prepared to take that one since it is an incredibly common problem. I have one more week of training left before I start taking calls on a daily basis.

I watched 50 First Dates last night and I was really impressed. Well I was drunk at the time, but still… Generally I detest romantic comedies but this was really funny while having a good message at the same time.

I have been cooking a lot now that I have a bit of a bigger kitchen. I just finished making peanut butter rice crispy squares for the first time so I hope they are good. Funny thing is that I used a pot, a very clean one, that I had make curry udon in last night and so when I started to melt the butter in the pot you could smell the curry that was ingrained into the pot. So maybe I will have peanut butter curry rice crispy squares. Damn I hope not!

Getting Set Up

Saturday, May 15th, 2004

Well I’m almost unpacked, damn I forgot to buy hangers at Walmart today, I basically only have my clothes and some miscellaneous junk to unpack. I got a nice, but kinda old, suite beside Wascana creek in Regina and I feel quite comfortable here except I don’t have enough furniture so most of the place is empty.

I’ve finished the first week of training for my new job and I have another two weeks remaining. Its quite dry but I think this week I actually start doing some on the job work, I have watched people work, but I haven’t really done that much yet. I think I start with data entry sometime this week. The job should be okay, I just hope that I get enough hours since I’m not full-time. Oh yeah, if you don’t know, I’m doing Internet support work.

I just finished watching “The Butterfly Effect“ and I was very impressed. Ashton Kurcher did a much better job than I had ever expected and I no longer believe that he is typecast into idiot roles.

I plan to continue work on VatoBlog as soon as I get things a little more settled here. I have been thinking of more ways to make it better and fix the bugs that currently exist so please be patient.

Peace!

Back In Town

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

Well I took a trip down to my Grandparents house and I picked up my Mom’s old 1989 Isuzu Trooper. I’m going to be driving the hoopty for a while until I get a full-time job and can afford to buy a new car. Most of the front end has been fixed up and it ran pretty well for the 240km I put on it today. I am thinking about puting a MP3CD deck into it since I can’t stand the radio and I have a ton of MP3 CDs so it might be worth while, even without an amp and good speakers.

I paid off my credit card today, it was $1002.39. That’s the highest I’ve ever had it up. Most of that amount is from my computer parts, which better be here by Friday or I’m going to be pissed off! I will list all the parts and the details of my system once I get it all set up. The total price is going to be around $2000! A bit more than I was planning to spend, but Sang Hee told me to buy the nice 17” LCD monitor.

That’s all for now…
