Phone Number Geolocator

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

“This is a cool little web tool that uses the Google Maps API to plot the location of phone exchanges on a map. Could be useful for finding the general location of an unknown phone number.”

Since I work in the telecom industry, this is probably the most useful Google Maps mashup I have found.

“After selling a broken laptop on Ebay..the buyer was pleasantly surprised to find Amir didn’t wipe the hard drive. The purchaser then created a blog and posted several unflattering photos and details of Amir’s life…”

I feel sorry for this guy if he is telling the truth, if not, to hell with him…

Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Server Edition to Include Certified LAMP Stack

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

“The Server Edition of the June 1st 2006 release of Ubuntu will include a mechanism to set up a standardised, certified and supported LAMP server with a single command. The feature reduces the setup time for companies providing hosted LAMP services as well as making it easier for organisations to set up and maintain their own LAMP server.”

I can’t wait for this, I just wish I was able to run both windows and linux at the same time…

OOOOOH Categories!!!

Monday, May 29th, 2006

So I decided to do a little work on the site. I have 420+ wordpress posts now and 2 categories. The second category only had 1 post in it so I don’t even know if we should couldn’t it. Regardless, I have begun categorizing my posts and as I see it now, it seems to add a lot more value to the sites. I have decided to be pretty loose with the categories and treat them more like tags which I think is more functional.

Adventures In Jury Duty (Part One: Pre-Court)

Monday, May 29th, 2006

I had to go to court today for jury duty. I got to the court room where the jury selection was, on the second floor at Court of Queen™s Bench, at about 9:50AM this morning. There were about 7 rows of benches and they all looked full. Shortly after I got to the door, so did several other people and the court attendant told everyone to move over. This freed up space for at least 20 people. Then she had to do that again about 5 minutes later. We were crammed in pretty tight, shoulder to shoulder, and people were complaining about it.

Court was supposed to begin with the jury selection at 10:00. At 10:00 one of the sheriffs announced that the judge was speaking to the prosecutors and the accused and they would be 15-20 minutes late. People then began to walk in and out of the court room until about 10:45 when someone else told us that the judge would be there in 15 minutes at the most. By the time court began I had spent 70 minutes cramped on uncomfortable benches listening to the guy behind me rant and complain how he had a sensitive nose and he was starting to smell people.

Stay tuned for part two¦

Canvas for Wordpress - Design Your Blog with Ease

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Canvas brings the freedom to express yourself through design without needing to know CSS or PHP. With Canvas and Ink for Wordpress, you can easily rearrange, reconfigure, and colorize your entire blog without ever touching a line of code.

They make it sound way better than it is, but still its a great way to layout your pages. As you can see, I am using Canvas now but with a very simplistic version of the kiwi theme that comes with it. The default kiwi theme is too outstanding for my taste as I like things very plain.
