Ex-USFK Soldier Confesses to 47 Murders

Colorado police say a man serving life for the murder of a teenage girl has confessed to leaving a trail of corpses in Korea and the U.S. that would make him one of the deadliest serial killers in American history. The man in his 50s said his first victim was a fellow serviceman in the U.S Forces Korea, where he served in the early 1970.

Louisiana-born Robert Charles Browne had told local authorities he killed his fellow soldier in a brawl over a Korean prostitute and claims to have killed another 47 people in the following two decades before being arrested in 1995.

Police say the claim is credible. Browne would strangle or stab his victims, mostly women between 13 and 26 whom he met on the street or in bars, and chop up their bodies before disposing of them in a bag. He was married and divorced six times, and all his ex-wives are still alive, police said.

I think the most important question is, “Why would you kill someone over a prostitute???”

Why Do People/Companies Code In VB.NET???

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

1) They made the mistake of starting in… ummm 1997.
2) They can’t code in real languages, even C#.Net is 1000 times better.
3) They … (insert your own expression here, honestly there is no reason to code in VB.NET other than legacy!!!)

I started a new qualifying group as Canada and in a game against Honduras I was facing a free kick where I noticed the shortest player I have seen thus far… Is Peters really that short?

The Best Call Ever…

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

Today I received a call from 1-800-701-8375. This is number for some kind of fake bank in Canada. The person who called me was perfectly nice, but they mispronounced my name. He called me, Mr. Gahbrielson. My name is Mr. Gabrielson, pronounced gae-bree-el-sun. Usually, I don’t make a big deal of this but I was watching “The Simpsons” when they called me. If you know me, I love “The Simpsons”. Needless to say, I did not want to be bothered by a telemarketer.

The first time he said my name wrong, I corrected him. As soon I as I corrected him, he said the name improperly again. So I said, “Where are you?” He said, “I am calling from …. bank of Canada.” I tried to ask again and he replied with the same answer. So, I said, “NO! Where do you live?” He said, “I live in India sir.” So I said, “Okay, do you have a manager?” To which he replied, “Yes.” So I said, “Okay, can I speak to your manager please?” He said, “Okay, I will put you on hold. One moment please.” This is where I knew I was going to get results.

The manager shortly picked up and explained that he was the manager. Now, keep in mind, I work in the VoIP industry and I know well about Indian call centers. I then said, “Hello, I would first like to say that the person I just spoke to is doing a very good job. However, he mispronounced my name.” The manager said, “I am sorry about that sir. …” I then interupted him, something I almost never do. I then asked, “Have you ever been to Canada?” To which he replied, “No sir, I have never been to Canada.” I then told him that it is very important in Canada to pronounce names properly, especially after being correct. He replied, “I am sorry sir, I will advise my staff.” I said, “Yes, I understand about Indian call centers because I work in the voice over IP industry. And your staff is doing a good job but I don’t want to be insulted over the phone.” He then asked me if they should not contact me via phone. I said, “No!” and I explained myself again, and this time he understood completely. I then said, “Thank you and have a good day.” He then replied the same to me and I hung up.

I hope that I didn’t cost this person a job. However this number is notorious for bothering people when they don’t want to be bothered, see http://www.cs.usask.ca/home/zhl278/blog/2006/05/spam-telephone-book.html. Please follow my example for tolerance.

Keeper Hat Trick

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

I play FIFA World Cup 2006 nearly every day. I’m trying to beat all the challenges and win the world cup from qualifying in each zone. I was playing a qualifying game with Chile against Columbia and I got bored so I decided to take the keeper out of the goal for a while. I ended up scoring a hat trick with him. What a great game…
