Quote Of The Day: Iqaluit Fun Fact

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

“The former military airport at Iqaluit, at an elevation of 34 meters, has the longest runway in the Canadian Arctic (8,000 feet). It not only serves airlines connecting to southern Canada, but also serves as a refuelling, and occasionally an emergency landing site, for international flights.” - A Guide to Iqaluit, Nunavut - Canada Far North

Doesn’t Iqaluit sound like a fun place? The Iqaluit Airport must be wild and crazy or I just read too much into the many adventures there.

Interesting Regional/Linguistic Google Search Results

Monday, February 26th, 2007

I was thinking about CBS, the American TV Network so I Google’d it. Then I started thinking that all the results I saw were English and that there was a popular Korean station with the same name/acronym. So I did a search on the Korean Google site in English. I noticed that the results were nearly identical on the first page except for the last two links. Then I tried the proper Korean language search on Google Korea and found that the Korean station is still second behind the American network. I find this somewhat interesting because I believe the vast majority Koreans that would do that search would ignore the links to the American network.

What Would Canada Do?

Monday, February 26th, 2007

I am a fairly proud Canadian. I may not be proud of our current prime minister, but I am nonetheless proud to be Canadian.

I just began to think about how Canada would react if the U.S. were to be attacked in such a way that is portrayed on CBS’s Jericho. It’s an interesting idea I will have to discuss with people. I’ve been wanting to do a study with a survey of people I know and random people on the street. Yeah, kind of weird…

Reflections #1: Sleeping in Train Stations in India

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

I, a Canadian, went backpacking in India with a Korean tour group for my honeymoon. It was somewhat of a life changing experience. I did things in India that I would never do here, perhaps things that I could not do here. One of these things was sleeping on the floor of random train stations throughout India. I would never do anything like that anywhere in North America or pretty much anywhere else in the World. I saw a mouse running on the inside of a monk’s makeshift tent and urinating on his sheet while he was in it. Ah, good times!

Photo Project: Lutz-Biro Wedding Photo, November 24, 1979 (Part 2: The Newspaper Typo)

What can I say? I like reviewing things, that’s how much of a nerd I am…

I found this funny typo in the original newspaper clipping from November 24, 1979 or whatever the print date was:
