Saskatoon’s Roadways Future

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

I just read something I did not know on the Wikipedia entry for Saskatoon:

Construction of Saskatoon’s “ring road”, Circle Drive, began in the mid-1960s (after having first been proposed in 1913) but as of 2006 the freeway was still only three-quarters completed. As well, unexpected growth has led to sometimes severe congestion problems, the necessity of transport trucks to pass through busy commercial areas and a large number of light-controlled intersections, only recently being rectified by overpass constructions. Planning for the final section of Circle Drive, which will involve a new river crossing on the south side of the city and several interchanges, is under way and construction is expected to begin in the next few years. The province also has plans to construct another ring road (dubbed the “Perimeter Highway” like the “Perimeter Highway” in Winnipeg, Manitoba) farther out from the city within the next 20 years, as Saskatoon’s population continues to steadily increase. Also now under construction is a realignment of Provincial Highway #7, one that will eventually link it to the Yellowhead Highway north of the city’s airport.

Making Myself Code…

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

I have been a programmer/analyst full-time for about the last 18 months. I was working with Java & Asterisk for about a year and the position I am in now is an enterprise level .NET shop. I still prefer the open source world but I have to pay the bills…

Anyway, I have not coded anything at home for a long time but I found out tonight that Google offers free SVN hosting for open source projects. I have created an account for my movie database application and I will be releasing some code shortly (I hope). I have to make a few changes to my code so it is usable by the general public and it’s not an amazing application by any means but it works great for me and this will at least give me a way to store my code reliably as well as giving me a reason to continue work on it.

Quote Of The Day: Ralph Wiggum - When I Grow Up…

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

“When I grow up I want to be a principal or a caterpillar.” - Ralph Wiggum, The Simpsons (Episode Unknown)

The clip is available in my previous post “Ralph Wiggum And I“. Which I have corrected to fix the numerous spelling mistakes which I missed when I obviously did not spell check.

As a side note, I can’t believe how horrible Wikipedia’s entry for principal is.

Star Wars Though Hip Hop! Very Nice!!!

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

The submitter on youtube said this was a “gangsta rap”. I would just called it, “Star Wars Though Hip Hop” because it just rapping. It’s not really “gangsta”. Nonetheless, this is pretty damn nice, especially the “Run To Dagoba” bit!

Linky Is My Friend

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Linky is one of the most useful add-ons I have found for Firefox. It allows you to open all links in a selected block of text to new tabs. This is something I was thinking I would have to code myself but I suppose there are lots of others like myself that wanted this functionality.
