The Best Letterman Bit I Have Seen In A While

Really now, does anyone actually like her? She is the worst thing that American media has created. Well, maybe David Hasselhoff…

My First SVG / Inkscape Is An Amazing Product / ATHF FTW

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

I was recently watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force fullscreen on my notebook and I thought to myself how cool it would be to have a vector image of Master Shake. So, this morning I set out on a mission to create one.

Step One
Snap a frame in VLC.

Step Two
Isolate the subject and roughly clean it up in Photoshop:

Step Three
Import image in Inkscape and follow tracing tutorial. Sorry, no image for this step.

Step Four
Adjust points, lines, curves, etc. in Inkscape until you have a smooth looking image:
Master Shake SVG Outline - Version 1

I took me less than an hour to do all this and that was learning for the first time. So, it’s a pretty easy job. I now want to properly group the objects so I can colour the image and possibly add the appropriate shading. Maybe I will add the information on how to do that later…

What American Accent Do You Have?

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

Midland

(”Midland” is not necessarily the same thing as “Midwest”) The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate. Since it’s a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn’t mean you’re from the Midland.

One Of The Best Songs Ever: Manfred Mann’s Earth Band - Blinded By The Light

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

I love this song despite being a self-proclaimed backpacker, hip-hop head. I wasn’t even born when this song was released. I wish more videos used effects like the ones that are used here. And the best part of the song:

“… Go-cart Mozart was checkin’ out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride”

Linux Adventures

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

I’m trying to find a Linux distribution that will install on my wife’s Korean, first generation TG Centrino notebook. I was planning on running Ubuntu on it but it won’t detect the dvd/cd-rw drive. So, I have decided to try Fedora 7. I started downloading the DVD .iso from a Canadian mirror but it was only downloading at about 40KB/s. Then I saw that they have a Facebook mirror at http://fedora.mirror.facebook.com/linux/releases/7/Fedora/i386/iso/ so i am grabbing it from there at over 400KB/s now. I hope it installs so I can use the notebook as a development computer.

American Inventor Is Awesome

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

I watched last season because I thought it might be good but it was sub par. I happened to be channel surfing tonight and it was on and they showed a segment of George saying “Yes!” and “I need that!” to a bunch of stupid inventions during the first round of auditions. He makes the show more humorous but I can’t help feeling like the show is being edited to help us laugh at him. I swear he says yes to everything.

Update
I forgot this great George Foreman quote, “Yes to anything with the flag.”
